What Areas Does Mountain West Farm Equipment Service?

Written By Jessica Emry 2/5/26

Mountain West Farm Equipment may have headquarters in Idaho, but our reach extends far beyond state lines! While we proudly serve customers in all 50 states (yes, we've even flown to Hawaii for servicing!), most of our customers reside in Idaho and its surrounding states: Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. We know that agriculture is the backbone of our daily life and reliable equipment support is essential.

Our company currently operates out of two Idaho locations: our main headquarters in Idaho Falls, Idaho and our secondary shop in Preston, Idaho. Both of our locations allow us to provide quick response times, dependable service, and excellent support for producers across the region.

Inspect your knives often for both knife wear and bolt wear. It is recommended (at the minimum) to change your bolts with every knife change. Proper upkeep of your mixer’s knives and bolts will prevent thousands of dollars in repair costs.

Whether it's delivering a new mixer, performing routine maintenance, or responding to an emergency breakdown, we're committed to keeping operations running smoothly- no matter the distance. Wherever your operation is located, we're here to help. 208-552-0672.

Is It Time To Change Your Mixer Knives?

This picture is the same knife in different stages of wear. The knife in the background of this image is a prime example of a knife that should be replaced. You can see that the edges are worn in comparison to the newer knife in the foreground of the image.

When mixing, the majority of the wear is on the tip of your knives. For best practices, mixer knives should be replaced when the tip of the knife is worn, even if the other half of the knife still looks good. A dull knife will take more horsepower and fuel to run your mixer and it may result in a poor cut ration.

Call to learn of the large variety of mixer knives we offer! We also offer local pick up of your knives, shipped direct orders, or we can even come to you and install new knives (and save you the heavy lifting!). 208-552-0672.

What is a feed mixer?

What is a feed mixer?

Written By: Jessica Emry 10/23/24

A feed mixer is an agricultural machine made to mix together a variety of animal feed ingredients. Feed mixers are commonly used to feed cows- on both feedlots and dairies, however, they can be used to feed a variety of livestock including bison, elk and even pigs. Feed mixers come in a large variety of brands and sizes- and we are here to help you find the right fit for your business.

A feed mixer’s purpose is to create a balanced diet for your livestock. It creates a homogeneous mixture of all the essential nutrients and therefore can provide growth, increased milk production, and overall health. A mixer can also help to reduce feed waste and time managing the mixing process, saving farmers and ranchers money, time, and labor.

The most common types of feed mixers that we sell are typically either Horizontal Mixers or Vertical Mixers. Just like buying a new car, the type, brand, model, and size are all dependent on your unique operation and personal preferences.

Take some time to answer the following questions. These answers can help you and our sales team find the best fit for your operation.

  • - Do I already have a preferred mixer brand? Such as Supreme Int., NDE Co., Laird Mfg., Kuhn Knight, Rotomix, or Harsh Int.?
  • - What is my typical farm/herd size? Are there different dietary requirements for different parts of my farm/herd?
  • - Do I use liquid raw materials (such as molasses, liquid vitamins, or oils) for my feed rations? If so, what percentage of my feed rations are liquid?
  • - What other materials (such as silage, grain, or hay) am I using in my rations?
  • - What equipment do I have currently for feeding (mixers, tractors, loaders)?
  • - How many locations will my mixer need to cover in a day? How much distance is there between locations?
  • - Am I looking to expand my farm/herd in the near future?
  • - Do I want a stationary mixer, a tractor pull mixer, or truck mixer?
